Well this just sucks!!!

Every year when I get home, I am in a funk about the low quality of fish in Oregon. I know that the fish I am after here, have been in the system longer, and the water levels are lower, but come on. I have seen thousands of fish in the last couple of days, and only one bright one in the midst.

I was able to get into a nice little native Steelhead at the coast, also the one bright Silver, and I lost 2 really large Chinook, (They were black though). I just want to bitch about it, until the Steelhead arrive.

I am getting married soon, and hopefully this will not put a crimp in my fishing time. I don't think it will, but if you don't hear from me anymore after the 14th of Nov., then please someone put a memorial for me at the birthday hole, on Eagle Creek. Those of you who fish it with me, will know where I am talking about. Hopefully she won't let me fish when I first come home from Yakutat, cause all I do is complain about coming to a State with nasty old Silvers, and Fall Chinook that fall apart when you land em'. Bitch, Bitch I know, but what else can I do, the fishing sucks for fresh fish right now.

If anyone out there can tell me where the Steelhead are available right now, with a fly rod, hopefully some place to spot fish.

I just need some good fish to catch, and I am not traveling all the way to NY Donnie. See ya all soon, I will be fishing this week, but I only expect pics of black or red fish.

Here are the pics from the coast, and a couple older colorful fish, from Eagle Creek.

Tournament time

Well for the first time, I was in on the annual Silver tournament at Jonah's this weekend. This tournament takes place every fall on the Sandy river. It draws a good number of excellent fisherman, mainly all the high school friends from the Gresham, Troutdale area. The fish were everywhere, but the bite was slow. I was able to get two on my fly rod, and took fourth place all around. Better next year I hope.

I am leaving for AZ right now, to attend my Grandfathers funeral.  I will be back on Friday, and on the rivers on Saturday. From then on, should be updating everyday, with great pics and vids. Should have some good coastal pics next week.

I am going to Vegas to get married on the 14th of Nov. So I will be away for that week also, then Mexico at end of Nov., but back for winter Steelhead. Here are a few pics of the fish from the tournament.

Last days on the River!!!

It's over for the season, and as I leave again for another 6 months, I look back at all the good times that I had. The fishing was great throughout the entire year, and the co-workers this year, for the most part were great. There were some that came and went, but here at the Lodge, we strive to only keep the best of the best. That is what we had by the end of the year, and we are hoping to see the return of most of this group. I can not say enough about the staff here at the Yakutat Lodge, so thanks for all the good times, and the memories. My photographer, was not available that much this season, and I am hoping to get some good Steelies in the air next year, and possibly this winter. From the snow in April, the sun in June and July, to the wind and storms of September, I love it all, and will be returning to Yakutat Lodge for some time to come. I want to say Thanks to Ken Fanning,(Owner), Kip Fanning,(Owners Son), and the newest members of the management team, Dan and Hope Anderson, now in their second year here. They worked hard this year to keep up good service through a tougher economy this year. Next year will be even better. The fishing will always be good, but the service will be great. We are rebuilding, and improving this next few years. There will be new facilities at the bay, and also a completely new experience at the Fanning's on the Bay house, where you will have one on one service, private chef's, and fully guided trips of your choice daily. Call up to get a brochure mailed to you, or to ask about information. Also you can visit www.Yakutatlodge.com for more info. Call 1-907-784-3232 or toll free at 1-800-YAKUTAT. See ya next season. Back in Oregon, getting married in Las Vegas on November 14th. Hope to be able to update during this time. Will be in Mexico also in Nov. where I will be fishing rooster fish. Look for the pics.
