There are days in a fisherman's life, when you just don't understand the fish you are pursuing. I have had three of the hardest days ever fishing for Steelhead. My clients the last three days are two of the nicest Ladies to visit Yakutat Lodge every year. I have had the pleasure of fishing with Pudge and Sandy. Pudge is an Alaskan guide, and she also guides in Mexico. She has fished all around the world for many different species of fish, including Steelhead. Sandy is a friend of Pudge's, and a very good fisherwoman in her own right. Along with being a guide, Pudge also teaches fly fishing classes, and has authored books on the subject, including a book for fly fishing women. We had a tough 3 days on the river. The first day out, the water was still a bit higher than normal, and the fish were off the bite. The second day out, the water had cleared, and the fish were everywhere, but they were off the bite and on the move. Today there was no rhythm or reason for why the fish were off the bite. The water had cleared up completely, and dropped into perfect shape. The fish had stopped, and were holding, but still no real bite happening. We tried everything we had available to us and still nothing. So after three days of fishing, we had hooked up with 7 fish, and only brought 3 to the boat, not my best. Here are some pics from the last three days.
Hope it picks up soon.
