Today I saw a good number of fish in the system. Of course there were not as many as I would expect to see this time of year, but there were more than has been present in the last week.
I met a fisherman, (Jerrol) at the creek this morning. Jerrol got a hold of me through my web site, and we talked about meeting up so that Jerrol could get a look at the way I fish the creek.
We had an exciting yet uneventful beginning. The first stop we made, we saw fish, but because of the low, clear water conditions, these fish ran as soon as we lifted our arms to cast. We chased about four fish around the hole for up to an hour, before they decided to hide from us, and they were out of site. We headed down river, and came across another fish in a white water spot that has a bit of turbulence, but with a nice seam on the outside. We did see fish in there, so I had Jerrol try for these fish, and I went on down looking for some more takers. I spotted 3 more fish on the way through the pocket water, but same as the fish at the top, they ran as soon as I got ready to cast.
Jerrol then caught up to me, just as I had some fish cornered against a wall. Jerrol could not see the fish against the wall, but I was sure they were there. I fished these fish for over an hour.
These fish were sitting tight against a wall just behind a rock formation. To get to the fish I had to try to maneuver around the rocks and drop it in the tiny little hole where they were laying. I was having a real hard time getting around the rocks without getting hung up. I lost several rig ups, then I had to think outside the box. I determined that because of the low water, these fish would not leave the spot they were in no matter what. So I steeped out close to the snag, and dropped three big rocks right down in the hole between the rocks where the snag was. I filled in the snag, and in doing so, I also caused a little undertow, that in turn caused my fly to go directly in front of those fish. Needless to say, I hooked up with all four fish in this hole, and kept two. It was great thinking my way around those fish to figure out a way to get them out the hole they were held up in.
In the meantime, Jerrol had went on past and down river. When I caught up with him, he had seen a fish in the hole, and was trying to locate it. I was able to spot the fish, and a couple more laying up against a nice little rock wall. One of these fish was a big boy. I wanted Jerrol to hook up, so I got him set up, and showed him what I could to help, and went up just above him. I had a feeling with that many fish in the slot below, there must be some fish just up from there. I was correct. I saw three fish right away, but again they bolted as soon as I tried to cast. Then I heard the holler from Jerrol, it was "fish on!", and it was the big boy. It did not last long, but no matter, it was his first hook up with a Steelie on his fly rod, so that is great whether you land the fish or not. I later got into and landed a nice female, and then I got into the big boy also, but he schooled the both of us today.
Here are the pics from today.

Good luck out there!
